The Czech Architecture Foundation was established with the mission to present architecture as an integral part of contemporary culture. Through its grants, CAF supports exhibition, lecture and publication efforts in the field of Czech and international architecture. The CAF does not implement its own projects, does not support schools of architecture, nor does it subsidise professional practice of individual architects. The CAF is the operator of two galleries of architecture: The Jaroslav Fragner Gallery in Prague and 4AM/Gallery of Architecture in Brno. The seat of the CAF is in the Jaroslav Fragner Gallery in Prague, the office on the base of the servitude in Masarykovo nábřeží 250 - Mánes building, Prague 1. From the reason of the Mánes reconstruction the CAF´s office is temporary on the new address: FA ČVUT in Prague, Thákurova 9, 166 29 Prague 6.

Origins and History

The Czech Architecture Foundation (hereinafter only ”NCA”) came into existence by separating itself from the Czech Art Fund Foundation (CAFF), an organization joining visual artists and architects, which had established this Foundation in accordance with its statute. It was registered on June 6, 1997, at the District Authority for Prague 1 in the registration entry no P1-525/97 as the Czech Fund for Architecture Foundation. On December 4, 1998, in compliance with the law no. 227/1997 of the Collection, the Foundation was re-registered at the Regional Court of Commerce in Prague 2, chapter N, file no. 58, under the new name as the Czech Architecture Foundation (NCA). In 1999, the Foundation became a member of the association of the Donors Forum, an association of foundations active in the Czech Republic. In 2001 the Foundation participated in the competitive tender for the division of the Foundation Investment Fund (NIF) and succeeded in the proceedings, thus joining selected foundations whose capital was subsequently increased by financial injections from the state. Thanks to this success, the Foundation is able to expand its grant activities that, in this case, will focus primarily on publishing and editorial activities.
